About the CDT

What does it offer

Who is it for

The CISDnS CDT will train the next generation of leaders, researchers and technologists for the D&S sector. The CISDnS CDT will recruit from a diverse talent pool that will bring a larger generational and experiential diversity to the cohorts.

Applicants from all career stages are encouraged to apply, including those currently employed in the D&S sector, military personnel, those transferring from military to civilian job roles, as well as recent graduates.

D&S is a core industry for the UK and ensuring that we have a highly skilled workforce that can provide leadership and innovation is key to its future success. This requires the development of new talent and, within an era of fast-paced technological advancement, the upskilling and reskilling of those currently employed in the workforce. To support this, the CDT has developed an innovative and flexible approach to doctoral training.

The CDT in Complex Integrated Systems for Defence and Security (CISDnS) is led by a team of world-class academics drawn from across the University of Southampton. The leadership team have extensive experience of conducting research within the context of the Defence & Security sector and represent a diverse range of technical disciplines, reflecting the broad technical remit of the centre.
